"I joined Sigma Alpha after transferring into the college of ACES my sophomore year because I wanted to meet people with similar ag backgrounds. I have gained leadership, friendships, and networking opportunities through my Sigma Alpha experiences. Through my position as Ag in the Classroom chair I met the coordinator of Earth Partners here in Champaign which led to an Internship. Sigma Alpha has also opened doors for me to meet many other people in the college of ACES in class, at exchanges, and even other College of ACES organizations. Sigma Alpha has been one of my greatest college experiences. I wish that I could give back to Sigma Alpha, what it has given me."
-Katie Haarmann, Senior in Agri-Finance
"I joined because I wanted to be involved on campus. I knew Sigma Alpha had a great reputation and members, so I wanted to be a part of it.
What I've gained ...
Great friends, numerous career connections, and fun meetings on Monday nights."
-Kayla King, Junior in Ag Communications
"The reason I joined Sigma Alpha was to meet people that shared the same interests in agriculture as me and also has similar backgrounds. I have gained professional and leadership skills, but above all, friendships from my involvement in Sigma Alpha, all of which I would have missed out on had I not joined."
-Jhane Reifsteck, Senior in Ag Communications
"Joining Sigma Alpha has brought many opportunities to the surface for me. One, it associated me with a well known, prestigious organization on the ACES campus. When I told them I was in it, it was kind of a conversation start and just made a lot of networking possible. The second thing Sigma Alpha has brought to me is a great group of girls to study, hang out, and just talk with. I love the connections I've made and that's also the reason I joined. I was coming from a small town and didn't know anyone on campus, so meeting a group of girls with similar backgrounds was just awesome and made the campus so much smaller!"
-Sarah Turek, Senior in Animal Sciences
"I had many friends and a roommate that were members of Sigma Alpha when I transferred to campus from Lake Land College. I wanted to join a group that would allow me to meet other girls who shared my agricultural interests. The most important thing I will be taking away from Sigma Alpha is the friendships that I have made with my sisters. I also have found that Sigma Alpha is full of good networking opportunities for my future.”
-Rachel Stuart, Senior in Ag Communications
"I joined Sigma Alpha as a freshman because many people I first met told me such wonderful things about it. It was great to meet such a strong group of women who shared the same passion for agriculture. Since I joined, Sigma Alpha has given me strength and opportunities to try new things as well as building lifelong friendships."
